Sports & Remedial Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is far more than relaxation — it’s a powerful clinical tool for recovery, performance and long-term wellbeing.

Our skilled remedial massage therapist Michelle Ivins offers sports massage, remedial massage and hot stone therapy at The Sports Physio Clinic Narrabeen & West Pymble to help patients of all ages & activity levels reduce pain, restore movement & feel their best.

Sports massage helps active individuals recover faster and train harder, remedial massage addresses the muscular imbalances and tension that can limit your progress and hot stone therapy harnesses the therapeutic power of heat to ease deep tissue tightness and calm the nervous system.

All three therapies are available as a standalone treatment or integrated directly into your physiotherapy care plan.

Optimise your Physiotherapy Treatment with Targeted Remedial Massage

Reduce muscular restriction, improve movement, and address related areas for more effective recovery and improved movement across the kinetic chain.

🏃 Improve range of motion for more effective exercises
🧍 Release tension that may be limiting progress
🔗 Address compensatory patterns and related areas
🏃 Support efficient, coordinated movement

Remedial Massage

Remedial massage is a targeted, clinical approach to soft tissue treatment. Rather than simply relaxing the muscles, remedial massage works to identify and address the underlying causes of muscular tension, restriction and pain — including compensatory movement patterns that develop when one area of the body compensates for weakness or injury elsewhere.

Michelle works closely with our physiotherapy team to ensure your massage treatment directly supports your rehabilitation and movement goals.

Whether you’re recovering from injury, managing a chronic condition, or simply carrying the effects of a demanding lifestyle, remedial massage can help you:

  • Reduce muscular restriction and tightness
  • Improve range of motion for more effective movement
  • Release tension that may slow your progress
  • Address compensatory patterns across the kinetic chain
  • Support efficient, coordinated movement

Sports Massage

Sports massage is specifically designed for active individuals — from weekend warriors and local club athletes through to elite performers.

It can be used at any stage of your training or competition cycle to help you prepare, perform & recover more effectively.

At The Sports Physio Clinic, sports massage is delivered with a strong understanding of athletic movement, load management and injury prevention.

Whether you’re preparing for an event, managing the demands of a heavy training block, or recovering from a hard session, sports massage can:

  • Accelerate muscle recovery & reduce post-exercise soreness
  • Improve flexibility & reduce injury risk by addressing tightness before it impacts technique
  • Enhance circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Keep you training consistently and at your best

Hot Stone Therapy

Hot stone therapy uses smooth, heated basalt stones applied to key areas of the body to deliver deep therapeutic warmth that manual pressure alone cannot achieve.

The heat penetrates layers of muscle tissue, improving circulation, softening deeply held tension and calming the nervous system — making it a particularly effective treatment for chronic tightness, stress-related muscle holding and conditions where the body needs a more restorative approach.

Hot stone therapy techniques do not make this a day-spa experience — it is a clinically informed treatment delivered by a therapist with over 20 years of experience, and can be combined with remedial or sports massage techniques for outstanding results.

This integrated approach is particularly valuable for patients managing:

  • Sports and musculoskeletal injuries
  • Post-surgical rehabilitation
  • Chronic pain and movement restriction
  • High training loads and performance demands
